We are looking forward to another great year of reading some terrific books! On this wiki, you will find all the materials you need to get started with this project. Battle of the Books is a reading competition designed to challenge students identified for services in the Gifted and Advanced Learning Program. The pre-selected list of 40 books is determined with these students in mind. Each participant is expected to read at least 10-12 books. Special recognition is paid to those who choose to read all 40 books. Students who have a great deal of task committment and an intrinsic love of reading will be the most successful. The official start date for Battle of the Books is August 23, 2017. The 2017-2018 list will be available then. Even though this is a competitive event, students will be working on a team and teamwork will be emphasized. All building competitions should occur before Spring Break 2018. The regional competition occurs the week after Spring Break with the final round held in April. More information about the competitions will be available later.
Please feel free to recommend books for consideration for next year's list. Post your recommendations on the wiki page labeled Books to Consider for 2018-2019. If you have questions, contact us either by phone or email. Good luck and have a great time with the Battle of the Books! Coordinators: Jenny Schiltz jennifer.schiltz@dmschools.org 242-7939
